Argentina's President: Pork better for sex than Viagra?

Argentina's president thinks eating pig meat is really sexy. Many people in this beef-loving nation reacted with surprise Thursday after Cristina Fernandez promoted pork in a speech during which she not only said pork is better than Viagra, but suggested she's personally proven it.

"I didn't know that eating pork improved sexual activity," Fernandez said in a meeting with representatives of the swine industry late Wednesday. "It is much more gratifying to eat some grilled pork than to take Viagra."
She even joked that "it was all good" after she enjoyed some pork with her husband, former President Nestor Kirchner.
"I think they might be right," Fernandez said to a laughing audience.

The president's half-joking speech in which she announced subsidies for the pork industry won prominent play on television and radio stations, prompting discussions on whether Argentines should add more pork to their diet.
Argentines are among the world's biggest consumers of red meat, and most people here stubbornly reject the idea of replacing beef with chicken, pork or other meats. Despite Argentina lying along rich South Atlantic fisheries, seafood is rarely seen on dinner tables.

Fernandez approved subsidies to keep the price of pork low despite inflation, and her government has also recently subsidized red meat producers after beef supplies sharply declined in the South American country.

The head of the association of pork producers, Juan Luis Uccelli, supported Fernandez's speech by saying that Denmark and Japan have a much more "harmonious" sexual life then the Argentines because they eat a lot of pig meat.
"In Osaka, Japan, there is a village in which the people who reached 105 years old and ate a lot of pork had a lot of sexual activity," he told radio Mitre.
Others were skeptical.

"There is no study showing that pork meat significantly improves sexual activity," Amado Bechara, a specialist in sexual disfunction, told the Web site of the newspaper La Nacion.

Miss Virginia "Caressa Cameron" Wins 2010 Miss America Crown

Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron won the 2010 Miss America title Saturday night after strutting in a skintight yellow dress, belting Beyonce's "Listen" from "Dreamgirls" and telling kids they should get outside more often.

Cameron, a 22-year-old from Fredericksburg, Va., won a $50,000 scholarship and the crown in Las Vegas after a pageant that started with 53 contestants. She outlasted her opponents in swimsuit, evening gown, talent and interview competitions.
Cameron is broadcast journalism student at Virginia Commonwealth University, and wants to become an anchor.

When asked during the interview portion of the competition her thoughts on fighting childhood obesity, Cameron said parents should curb television and video games.

"We need to get our kids back outside, playing with sticks in the street like I did when I was little," she said. "Expand your mind, go outside and get to see what this world is like."
Cameron said her win was a testament to her family's strength.

"You can be and become anything that you want to be, even Miss America," she said.
Miss California Kristy Cavinder was the first runner-up, winning $25,000.
The young women who came out on stage at the beginning of the pageant and danced to "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas are from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

After a week of preliminary competition, they each introduced themselves to the crowd Saturday at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
"From the home of the Governator, I am here to pump you up," Cavinder said as she was introduced.
The judges, the public and contestants themselves then trimmed the field over the next two hours.

Actor and "Extra" host Mario Lopez hosted the 89-year-old pageant with help from Clinton Kelly of TLC's "What Not to Wear." The pageant was broadcast live on TLC.
The panel of judges included radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, actress Vivica Fox, musician Dave Koz, Miss America 2002 Katie Harman, gymnast Shawn Johnson and former "American Idol" finalist Brooke White. Comedian Paul Rodriguez was set to be a judge, but organizers said he pulled out because of a family emergency.

Cameron, crowned by 2009 Miss America Katie Stam, will embark on a yearlong run with the title to represent the organization and raise awareness for her chosen platform.
Cameron, Cavinder and Miss Michigan Nicole Blaszczyk each won $2,000 earlier in the week for winning talent competitions among three split fields of contestants. Miss Oregon CC Barber, Miss New York Alyse Zwick and Miss Puerto Rico Mimi Pabon each won $1,000 in nightly swimsuit competitions.
Miss Oklahoma Taylor Treat won the $6,000 Quality of Life award, given to the contestant judged to excel most in volunteerism and community service.
Scores based on a week of preliminary competitions were added to Saturday's competitions to determine the winner. Each judge ranked their five favorites in order, and their ballots were used to pick the winner.
In all, the Miss America Organization awarded $340,000 in scholarships at the national level. The organization says its national, state and local chapters gave more than $45 million last year in cash and scholarships.
The pageant was preceded by a one-hour television special on TLC, "Miss America: Behind the Curtain."
The contestants picked 12 women from their own ranks who faced a public vote for one of three spots among the 15 finalists. Stam, a Seymour, Ind., native, was one of four finalists chosen by viewers last year.
The crowning of a Miss America began in 1921 as a publicity stunt to persuade tourists on Atlantic City's Boardwalk to stick around after Labor Day.

The bathing revue blossomed in the age of television into an American pop icon before fading in later years and losing it place on network TV in 2004. It moved to the Las Vegas Strip in 2006 in an attempt to reinvent itself and has found a home on cable television.

Judge awards ₦100m damages to Uzoma Okere

Justice Opeyemi Oke of the Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere has awarded ₦100 million in damages to Uzoma Okere who was assaulted by four officers of the Nigerian Navy on November 3, 2008.

Ms. Okere sued Rear-Admiral Harry Arogundade, the four naval ratings in his convoy whom she said beat and stripped her on the stated date, when she refused to leave the road for the convoy.

As part of the judgement, the court also asked the respondents to write a letter of apology to the claimants, which must be published in at least four newspapers within one month of the judgement. I'm getting confident with the Nigerian Judiciary, this shows that you can get Justice in Nigeria.

Serena Wins 2010 Australian Open

Serena Williams won the 2010 Australian Open championship after winning 6-4 3-6 6-2 over Belgium's Justine Henin. Following the win of the second consecutive Melbourne title, the 28-year-old Serena claimed her 5th Australian trophy (leveling the Billie-Jean King record in all-time list) and the 12th Gand Slam title in her career. For unseeded Justine Henin it was a great performance to reach the Melbourne final in her second tournament after a 20 month rest. In the direct meetings between the pair, Serena Williams leads 8-6, counting a 6-2 6-0 victory in 2008 in Miami,
right before Justine Henin retired even if being world nr. 1 at that moment.

Henin comeback gave results regarding the fact that she played two finals in the last 4 weeks. The Belgian tenniswoman claimed the Australian Open in 2004 and quit the tennis while playing the 2006 final due to stomach troubles.

Emma Watson's People Tree Line is now on-line

Emma's clothing line is now available for pre-order at People Tree for both guys and girls. Customers in the US will be able to pre-order on Monday. It's available now to the UK, Ireland, and most of the European Union including Germany, France and Spain. Rumor is that Emma was interviewed by the Daily Mail's weekend magazine "You" and that interview will be available on Sunday.

Emma's friend, Sophie Sumner, is the model for the collection. When you click on an item, a photo of her comes up with all information about the items including which group made it. If you click on the group that made it, you'll get a story behind about who is making the item. It's well worth the read and it underscores why supporting this line is very important. Emma is giving her share of the profits to charity- she's giving it back to those who make the clothes.

The clothes are indeed directed at the younger generation. It's the kind of stuff you would see at the more popular clothing stores. But that was the point of the line and I know the staff at the Coffee Break will be making some purchases very soon! Everybody has their favorite item! Oh and some of the clothing features some of Emma's own artwork so it has that special touch.

Haute Couture Week, Paris...

Iridescent, mysterious and romantic describe some of the collections of haute couture week in Paris. Colour palettes of dull pastels, silver, nude, petrol blue and raspberry take over the catwalk in an elegant array of Cinderella dresses. Even looking at these couture collections make you feel like a princess.

Karl Lagerfeld for chanel described his inspiration as an ‘electronic flash’ for this rococo meets astro collection. Boxy silhouettes and chiffon ruffles, on floor length gowns and short suits. An age away from his black and navy adorned with gold buttons.

Maison Martin Margiela presented in an exhibition like form. With spotlights on the models highlighting the outfit and less focus on the face. This ran with the mysterious feel of the collection. every outfit shows a 3d perspective, with mohair running through cage like structures, over emphasised rouched shoulder detail, and unitards covered in blossom.

Elie Saab played on romanticism and used the paler tones of washed out pastels and nude. A beautiful collection of gowns fit for the red carpet. Saab used layering and embroidery to accentuate the luxurious feel of couture. Beautifully soft and feminine.

5 minute presentation.

Where Are You?
Currently studying Fashion Design at AUCB. Getting into the swing of the Second year.

How did you get There?
I had enough of working full time in retail. It was depressing!! So i applied to uni, this course was the most vocational which is why it appealed to me. Throughout the first year I had a taste of many different aspects of fashion. I'd always been set on being a Visual Merchandiser because of my time in retail but having enjoyed the design side i was swaying more towards that pathway because it seemed more of a challenge. After toying with the idea all summer i came to a decision that even tho i loved blogging, and promotional aspects the design pathway would give me the opportunity to make a collection. whilst I can continue with my blog and other projects on the side giving me a more prospective future and portfolio. In the summer I completed placements styling at Asos, and Design at Mudpie trend forecasting! Which were both amazing experiences.

Where do you want to go next? How might you package yourself?
Next I want to complete a collection. Successfully. And move onto the top up year for FdA Fashion. From here I will continue to make a brand for myself by blogging up a storm, hopefully gaining popularity. I think this will be a good way to package myself.

Where it might take you?
It will hopefully take me towards a career I will enjoy. I'm looking to get into Fashion forecasting or Fashion womenswear Ready-To-Wear design.

Who might influence your decisions now and in the future?
Tutors will obviously influence my decisions. Criticism and Feedback will help me grow and improve. Friends from the course will obviously influence me. I believe the more ambition you are surrounded with the more it will spur you on, and obviously healthy competition will to. Inspirations and aspirations, my favourite designers, bloggers and also family will all influence me also.

Waste not want not...

With Visiting tutor Claire, we've been doing all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Last week, in practice for the end of year show, we styled accessories....hand made accessories! Bringing in a lot of junk to get creative with. Well about as creative you can get with an old jumper and a hair bow.

Ugly Betty Bye Bye...

I'm completely gutted Ugly Betty is being axed. Its being discontinued - because of poor ratings in America - once they have found a satisfying ending to the programme.

I am hooked on the series. I know its fictional but it was healthy to see someone not stick thin, and not perfect taking on the likes of the big cut-throat Fashion bosses! It brings to light some issues with the Fashion industry - ie self esteem and body image. There are a lot of problems with Anorexia especially in young girls who watch programme's like 'The Hills' it portrays a perfect image of the industry. It was a refreshing image to promote of an average, hard working girl who has been given a chance - albeit I wouldn't condone wearing her wardrobe if i worked for 'Mode' (which is essentially Vogue) and she wasn't that interested in fashion to begin with either...but STILL, what I mean to say is Hard work, confidence and determination will get you where you want to be. Starving yourself, not so much.

Emma Watson meets victims of terror, gives to charity and more

The mailbox was full so we'll make this update as efficient as possible. First off is a cool article about Emma meeting a group of terrorists victims -completely unplanned- at the Grove in Watford.  The Jewish Chronicle describes how Emma left her table and joined the group for dinner.

On the charity note, Emma has donated an item for a auction for Equine Market Watch Sanctuaries UK. The group twittered about her donation and you can visit their website to see what the organization is about.

Help My Style released another photo from Emma's People Tree line. Emma is not in the photo but her friend Sophie Sumner (storm models) is featured. They also have some smaller photos of the collection.

Yale has an article discussing the drop in applications at Yale and it mentions the increase of applications at Brown. It seems that the "Emma Watson effect" may be real!

We've done some Napoleon and Betsy internet searching here at the Coffee Break and it seems that Emma is no longer attached to the movie. Nothing is official so this is speculation on our part but it would make sense since Emma will be turning 20 this year. She is no longer mention on the Britfilms website and at another site, two actors were listed for the roles of Napoleon and Betsy - neither was Emma. There still is the other project her agent mentioned last summer but that still remains a mystery to us. To bad her agent didn't say more!

Pictures: Venus Williams almost naked at Australian Open 2010

So far Venus Williams played excellent at the Australian Open, the American tenniswoman progressing to the second round after defeating Lucie Safarova. But Williams drew the attention of the public with her outfit during the game, making many people think if she wore underwear or not. According to the pictures and the slow-motion video recordings, Venus Willliams looks like she is somehow naked.

This is not the only time when Venus tricks the men imagination. In the double game played along with her sister Serena against the pair Raluca Olaru and Olga Savciuc, Williams wore a quite compromising outfit as well.

It was the night the superstars of music and film joined together to bring a ray of hope to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Dressed in black, stars such as Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson, Robert de Niro and Brad Pitt urged the hundreds of millions watching worldwide to donate money for the 200,000 people killed and two million left homeless by the January 12 disaster.
Celebs even manned phones to take donations during the live MTV show.

First Lectra class

Before having this class, I was thinking, ok, basically when I find a job, it would be a big advantage if I had good IT skills apart from all the drawing, sewing, communicating, whatever skills that I have. Therefore, despite my terrible brain for computers, I will try my best to get used to Lectra.

But well, I've been terrible with computers means it's not going to change so soon, sadly. There are so many buttons and confusing stuff and.....just confusing stuff!

First Buying & Merchandising class

Today we had our first B&M class. It was exciting. We were introduced to different types of fashion merchandisers, the difference between a fashion buyer and a fashion merchandiser as well. There was Visual Merchandising I'm really interested in, but unfortunately this class won't mention that.

I started to feel that fashion industry is really huge and there are a lot of work to do in order to run a fashion business. That also means there are many chances for me to get a job later on. Many people think that fashion is all about fashion designing and fashion modelling, but in fact there's a lot more to know.

Emma Watson and Burberry news

Burberry smashed sales expectations and posted a 12% profit. Earlier predictions were estimated at 3.3%. Burberry gave Emma a nod for helping in it's success.

"Fashion house Burberry today said Harry Potter star Emma Watson had worked her magic on sales after appearing in advertisements. It smashed City forecasts for the final three months of last year with sales up 12 per cent to £380 million. Trench coats and handbags were particular favourites after Watson's campaign and Burberry has kept her for a second season. Chief financial officer Stacey Cartwright said: “We have had a brilliant quarter: picking Emma for the campaign was a great decision.” She said sales in the capital are still soaring because of tourism. “There's hardly any winter stock left in the shops — we've had to bring in Spring merchandise earlier than last year.” Burberry's shares rose 26p to 625½p as it said profits for the year to the end of March would be at the high end of City forecasts. Analysts are expecting pre-tax profits of £188 million.

Emma makes desirable list
According to Zap2It, the web site Askmen.com had it annual "most desirable" poll and Emma came in #55.  Her and Kristen Stewart were the only teens that made the list.

Emma updated her official site with the Times article and better photos from the article.

Six Things Beyonce Will do on Her Six Months Break

Beyonce says during her break:

1. She is not stepping into the studio and will stay away from her shoots and recordings.

2. She would eat out a lot and would be visiting lots and lots of restaurants.

3. She is also eager to take up a few classes (maybe cooking or French-learning)

4. She is also keen to head into theatres and watch lots of movies munching popcorns to give her jaws something to work upon.

5. She, even, is desirous of making a dash to the Broadway theatres and witness some plays. Hmmm….

6. And finally, she quips, she’d be doing a lot of random things (of which neither she nor we have any idea, at present).
***

She needs the rest!

What's in a Brand...?

- Personality
- Image
- Promises
- Slogan
- Logo
- Heritage
- Value
- Emotional Benefits
- Hard Benefits

My Creative philosophy 'Design clothing that I would want to wear' it maybe self indulgent. But sometimes there are clothes you imagine in your head....and you can't find anywhere! This is a solution for girls like me.

Logo:

My favourite:

I've tried to reflect a Fresh, Girly and Simplistic look into this logo, which I think sums up my aesthetic..

Business Card rough idea's...

Obviously these are very very rough and don't look that exciting at the moment but Ideally would like to use a card with foil embossed logo on the front, and have an image in the space onto the back!

New York Fashion Week: Chado Ralph Ruccis tools for seduction

Ralph Rucci moved his runway show from the Bryant Park Tents downtown to his SoHo showroom this season. If he was letting loose a little bit, it showed, first in his eclectic front row -- Whoopi Goldberg and Andre Leon Tally, '70s songwriting duo Ashford and Simpson, Fran Leibowitz, Martha Stewart and Deeda Blair -- it doesn't get much more wild and crazy than that. And then in his opening song, "White Rabbit." Pass the mink-covered hooka, dude!

In all seriousness, there has been a sexual charge surging through Rucci's Nipponese-serene style of late, and this superb collection kept it going. Every piece was a potential tool of seduction, from the matte black sequin screen siren gown, to the mink lined rain coat with decorative "scarring" at the hem and cuffs.

Hair trend 2010

1. Loose waves
This year loose, wavy hair is still on. I like this a lot. Me myself have slight wavy hair. My hair is naturally wavy anyway. I think it looks feminine and sexy but relaxing and effortless, well it's really effortless in a way. I don't have to spend too much time to make sure my hair looks good before going out, and with long wavy hair I can do lots of things like ponytail, a little bun, or just leave it like that.

2. The Topknot
I'm sure it's inspired by Asian fashion. The very first girls who promoted hair buns are Korean girls. This year the bun is more on top of the head. And loose or tight, it still looks really cute. I think it's a great way to bring out the face if we have nice jaw lines.

3. Textured hair
Obviously Lady Gaga is mentioned here. She's not the first one who did this, but she is the one who has made it really became a bomb this year. She has influenced fashion a lot not only in term of hair. Personally I don't really have time and effort to do it, but if I have a big party to go to, I might do!

4. Ponytail
It's not that easy to find something nice, simple, convenient and fashionable at the same time! Sounds good.

5. Braids and plaits
Not my type, to be honest. I rarely see a really loose, relaxing braid that I like. The rest just looks a bit corny to me.

6. The just-got-out-of-bed hairstyle
Absolutely love it! It looks relaxing, effortless and a bit rocky. I think we should never look like we have tried too hard. Perfect clothes, perfect nails, perfect accessories, perfect makeup, we need a messy (in an ordered way!) hair to create a natural, effortless look. I like my hair being this way most of the time. Well my hair is a real got-out-of-bed hair anyway!

7. Hair gets high
Everyone is doing it. We see lots of celebrities with their high-up-top do as well. I saw Rihanna with this hair quite a few times I think. It looks rocky but classy in a way. It brings out the face too.

8. Dishevelled updos
This is sort of for some big, formal parties. I prefer an informal, relaxing messy bun.

9. The New Bob
Bob is still on. It's just too big to be old-fashioned. But this year it's longer, softer and more relaxing. I remember the time when I had straight, long Bob hair, sort of Rihanna's. Good time! It took me A LOT of money and effort as my hair is naturally wavy. But it was worth it. It looked GOOD!
